Tomás Cunha Ferreira: Panapanã
Galeria Athena is pleased to present Panapanã, by Tomás Cunha Ferreira.
This is Tomás and this is a June Monday at downtown São Paulo. The sky is blue, not a single cloud, but it is chilly in the shade. We speak about being susceptible to beautiful days. Humor changes completely. Tomás says that he is obsessed about platbands, about painting the façade in order to live in a beautiful place. Curiously enough, not every home is beautiful in the inside. At home we usually amass papers, clothes that no longer fit, books we will never open, light bills and receipts, lots of junk. So why paint the facade as we do not live in the facade? On the other hand, painting the facade is like living in a color. Dressing a home like one picks one’s Sunday best. If you had to choose between a home with a beautiful view and one with a beautiful facade, which one would you go for? Tomás says that a facade is like a face. And everyone has a face. We order co ee with one scoop of ice cream and a French toast. The French toast is huge, barely fitting on the plate. Tomás reminds of a quote by Patti Smith about everyone being alive at the same time. The paintings on the fabrics could be platbands, but they could also be some sort of a strange, way too big butterfly landed on the wall and ready to fly away. Tomás already needs to leave. The sky is still blue through the window, the best blue it had in its wardrobe.
